Roma believe the Coppa Italia represents their best chance to capture a trophy this season.

The Giallorossi, having won the event nine times in their history and most recently in the 2012-13 campaign, face Empoli in the last 16 at the Stadio Olimpico tonight.

The Romans trail league leaders Juventus in Serie A by five points, while Saturday’s 1-1 result at Palermo was their third draw in their last four league games.

“We’ve had a positive first half of the campaign,” Roma coach Rudi Garcia said to the Italian press yesterday.

“But lately we have drawn too many games.

“We need to return to victory as soon as possible.

“Empoli are a very organised and dangerous team in dead-ball situations. But we want our 10th Coppa Italia.

“This is the shortest route to win a title.”

Roma are unbeaten at home and host an Empoli side that lies 16th in the standings and has won just once on the road this season.

If Roma win, their next opponents could be a Fiorentina side that is coached by former Giallorossi striker Vincenzo Montella.

For that meeting to take place, Fiorentina must beat Atalanta in Florence tomorrow.

Fiorentina are sixth in the Serie A standings after beating Chievo 2-1 in Verona at the weekend.

Atalanta, meanwhile, won for the first time since December 7 when they defeated Milan 1-0 on Sunday at the San Siro to climb to 15th.

Samp face Inter

Sinisa Mihajlovic will try to engineer a Sampdoria victory at his former club Inter in another last-16 game tomorrow at the San Siro.

Samp are yet to complete the signing of Samuel Eto’o from Everton, a player they have been chasing since the start of the year.

The Blucerchiati are fourth in Serie A, level on 33 points with third-place Napoli.

Inter are ninth in the table and have drawn three of their last four league games, including Saturday’s match at Empoli.

Coppa Italia holders Napoli and Udinese square off at the San Paolo stadium on Thursday with the winner to face Inter or Sampdoria next.

Udinese have not won a game in 2015 and take on a Napoli side that won 1-0 at Lazio on Sunday.
