James Rodriguez scored with a spectacular volley and a simple tap-in to give Colombia a 2-0 win over Uruguay in their World Cup last-16 match at the Maracana stadium, last night. Rodriguez controlled the ball on his chest on 28 minutes before swivelling and hitting a sublime volley from 20 metres which went in off the underside of the crossbar. Rodriguez practically sealed the match for Colombia five minutes into the second half when he slotted home from close in after a perfect Juan Cuadrado ball from a cross. Uruguay posed little attacking threat with leading striker Luis Suarez serving the first of his nine-match ban for biting Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini. Colombia play Brazil in the quarter-finals.
