Robbie Williams said he has “never been more in love and never been more proud of my wife” as he announced the birth of his baby son.

The Angels star provided fans with an online commentary from his wife Ayda Field’s bedside in the run-up to their second child’s birth.

The Take That singer posted a string of videos and pictures showing him in hospital, before concluding the commentary with a clip of the proud parents speaking of their joy at welcoming their son.

“I’ve never been more in love and never been more proud of my wife, she’s been absolutely astonishing,” he told his Twitter followers.

“It’s been a very emotional, amazing few hours and we’re really happy and honoured that you experienced the journey with us.”

The couple, who have a daughter Theodora, said they were still considering names for their son.

Williams revealed their new baby weighed 3.6kg − before being corrected by his wife who said their boy was 3.7kg.

“Every gram counts, trust me,” she said.

Some of Williams’s clips from earlier in the evening showed a picture of Field wearing sparkly high-heeled shoes, and a video called A River Runs Through It, appearing to show a doctor preparing to break his wife’s waters.

Stoke-born Williams first hit the headlines in Take That but quit the group in 1995 and embarked on a hugely successful solo career.

He married Field in the grounds of his Beverly Hills mansion in August 2010 and their daughter was born two years later.
