Four hooded men broke into a house in Marsaxlokk, terrifying the octogenarian owners who were asleep and making off with about €500 in cash and jewellery.

The robbers entered the house in St Joseph Road by breaking the lock of the front door at about 2 a.m. yesterday, police sources said.

Using plastic tie-clips, they tied up the 83-year-old man in the bedroom and ordered his wife, also 83, to give them their valuables before escaping.

The man was taken to Mater Dei Hospital suffering from slight injuries.

Duty Magistrate Myriam Hayman was informed.
