A man received a suspended sentence yesterday, while his accomplice was placed under a probation order, after they were convicted of robbing a British national.

Shawn Camilleri, 18, and a17-year-old girl, both of Birkirkara, admitted to the robbery which took place last April.

Camilleri, who was also charged with driving a vehicle without a licence or insurance, was sentenced to 19 months’ imprisonment suspended for a year.

In another arraignment, Roberto Maugeri, a 20-year-old Italian, admitted stealing two mobile phones and €50 cash from customers in a bar in St Julian’s early yesterday morning.

He was cautioned not to commit another crime within 30 months.
