Now that all the roadworks are finally completed in Depiro Street, Sliema, between Melita and Isouard streets, though the rest of the street is still a shambles, I hope that good sense will prevail and parking over there will be transferred to the left hand side of the road, as it is for the rest of Depiro Street. Such a move will mean an additional five parking spaces because, on the right, there are five garages.

I would also like to thank whoever is responsible for finally remembering that Sliema does exist, not just for demolishing beautiful old houses and erecting concrete sardine cans, but to resurface our potholed and bumpy roads. Was it necessary, though, to do so many all at once?

We now have everyday chaos in most streets, which are closed to traffic and no parking, of course, thus causing even more congestion and many more headaches for us long- suffering residents.

It seems to me that politicians (or most of them) only remember us when the elections are on the doorstep but, to be honest, all this chaos wouldn’t spur me to vote but, rather, to take a long holiday until it’s everything is over (both the roadworks and the elections).

So, dear politicians of whichever hue, will you kindly give us a break and try to remember us also during the rest of the five years and not just at the end of the term?
