The government is embarking on a huge project to resurface hundreds of streets and roads. May we in Nadur not be forgotten. The road leading to Mġarr Harbour near the playing field is a disaster waiting to happen. You can teach pupils about earth movements here, even perhaps about plate tectonics.

Racecourse Street, which is not far off, is in a dilapidated state. And Ta’ Xħajma needs a good makeover.

I have a suggestion to make: Why do not we embark on a national strategy of having tunnels underneath streets and having all utilities and services, and even water culverts, underneath? Many streets are damaged when they are dug up again and again.

We can start with a new strategy and plan every new street in this way. And is not the mass transport system more of a priority? A good friend of mine suggested that the road leading from Nadur to Victoria, Triq ir-Rabat, the part going down the hill where an ugly accident took place recently, should have a central barrier to prevent this happening again.

And the relative of a young man who was grievously injured because he swerved to avoid crashing into a police barrier suggested that these barriers should be made more noticeable.

While I am on the subject of transport, I cannot understand why a level of competition is not introduced in the ferry service between Malta and Gozo. Competition is healthy and has benefited consumers wherever it was introduced: whether it was in air travel or supermarkets.

And what about the air link between Malta and Gozo? A friend of mine has told me that developing the heliport in Xewkija into an airstrip does not mean that agricultural land will be used. It can be expanded  in the area where there is lot of debris.
