The stretch of “road” (Triq San Ġorġ, St Paul’s Bay) starting from HSBC Bank up to the ex-Telemalta site (presently owned by Go) has been in a terrible state for a number of years now.

The previous local council left it in a deplorable state and the present council cannot do much, either. Both previous and present councils admit that this failure to do up the road was due to a dominating factor: a couple of years back Go laid a fibre-optic cable but, according to both councils, it should have been laid much deeper. This has resulted in the fact that this stretch of road cannot be restructured properly since its foundations are made of clay and any digging would damage the cable.

The present council will some day this summer put a layer of tarmac but this will not be enough since the rains will wreak havoc in a couple of years, or less.

Why shouldn’t the telephone company or whoever the contractor was be held responsible and the road done as it should with no temporary fixes?

I would like Transport Malta to comment on this particular road and find a permanent solution for it.
