A 38-year-old woman was seriously injured yesterday morning when the car she was riding in collided with another vehicle at the traffic lights in St Julian’s.

The lights in Triq Mikiel Anton Vassalli were not working at about 5.45am, police said.

The woman was a passenger in a car being driven by a 30-year-old man, also from St Julian’s, when it crashed into another vehicle driven by a 23-year-old woman.

In a separate accident later on in the morning, a 45-year-old Bulgarian woman escaped with slight injuries when her car crashed into an oncoming taxi along the Coast Road. The accident happened at about 7.15am when the woman was driving her car – a Mini – along the Coast Road in the direction of Buġibba.

The taxi which was heading towards St Julian’s was being driven by a 40-year-old man from Fgura.

The taxi driver was not hurt but the woman was taken to hospital where she was found to be suffering from slight injuries, police said.

The accident led to an increase in morning rush-hour traffic as police blocked off a part of the Coast Road to traffic.
