The Equal Opportunities Act, which aims to safeguard the rights of people with disabilities, is being reviewed to ensure it is updated to cater for today’s needs.

The National Commission Persons with Disability yesterday launched a public consultation process for the revision of the law that came into force in 2000.

Commission chairman Oliver Scicluna said the time had come to review the law and address shortcomings made all the more evident when Malta ratified the UN Convention on the Rights for Persons with Disabilities in 2012.

The consultation process will close on November 28. The public can send feedback and suggestions by e-mail to yourfeedback@knpd.org or post to: Kumitat Reviżjoni tal-Liġi, KNPD, Bugeia Institute, Santa Venera, SVR1619.
