Costlier furniture, air fares and more expensive news­papers all played a part in nudging the retail price index up by 0.2 per cent last month when compared to June 2011.

A 1.79 per cent increase in the household equipment and house maintenance cost index was the result of more expensive furniture items.

The annual inflation rate stands at 2.17 per cent.
