The Responsible Gaming Foundation is to be launched today in conjunction with the Ministry for Family Affairs and Social Solidarity, it was announced in Parlia-ment yesterday.

The launching was disclosed by Economy Minister Chris Cardona in reply to a question by Kristy Debono (PN). The foundation is to be administered officially from the offices of the Lotteries and Gaming Authority.

Invited by Dr Cardona to take over answering, Parliamentary Secretary Edward Zammit Lewis said the aim of the joint launching was the prevention of social problems.

One very important component of the foundation’s board would be a representative of the Education Division. There were also a number of private shareholders that wanted to participate.

Dr Zammit Lewis assured Dr Debono that the foundation’s revenues would not go towards workers’ emoluments, and neither would it be allocated a budget by the government or the authority. It would be self-sufficient and would not lose any money.
