Recently on the programme Attwali, broadcast on TV channel Fine Living, I was enjoying an erudite discussion between three gentlemen about the Constitution of Malta and probable amendments.

Unfortunately, I felt sick hearing Charles Xuereb going off at a tangent to attack the George Cross that is proudly carried on the national flag and also attacking the statue of Queen Victoria, in Valletta (picture). This person, who is notorious for deep-seated Anglophobia, grabs every opportunity to attack whatever has a British connection and to applaud whatever smells of French.

When is Xuereb and other killjoys like him going to get it into their heads that personalities, items and subjects of historical heritage, of whatever nationality, are absolutely untouchable, regardless of the message they would be conveying?
