I refer to the article ‘Councils and the national interest’ (May 21) that was written by Simon Ellul Sullivan, a Nationalist Party candidate for the forthcoming Kappara administrative committee elections.

As vice-chairman of the current Kappara administrative committee (KAC) and also as a Nationalist Party candidate for the Kappara administrative committee elections, I wish to state that over the last four years all members of the outgoing administrative committee worked incessantly with honesty and transparency and in the sole interest of Kappara residents. The KAC was always available to consult and to listen to the residents and took necessary remedial action when complaints were raised.

The “disillusionment and concerns of the people of this hamlet (Kappara)” mentioned by Ellul Sullivan should be placed at the doors of the central government to whom various representations were made by the KAC during its term of office. It is the ultimate responsibility of the central government to ensure that the large businesses, increased traffic and major infrastructural changes do not threaten to change Kappara’s character.

Good luck to all candidates and may the aim of those who are elected remain the best interest of Kappara residents.
