The Migrant Offshore Aid Station (Moas) yesterday donated new medical equipment to Mater Dei Hospital.

The equipment includes a neo-natal resuscitator, defibrillator and an infusion pump. The equipment had been donated to the charity by US-based NGO Medical Bridges, but it could not be utilised on its migrant rescue boat Phoenix.

Moas is a search and rescue charity which assisted some 3,000 migrants in the Mediterranean Sea last year. It is currently on a mission to raise funds to ensure a beefed-up six-month presence in the Mediterranean this year to respond to the increase in refugees and the winding down of other rescue missions. Donations can be sent to www.moas.eu/donate.
