A few days before the feast of St Paul in Rabat, in the early afternoon, I was woken up from my nap by a knock at the door. Opening the door, I found two gentlemen collecting money for the feast of St Paul.

I told them that I could not afford to give them money for the festa. I’m a 70-year-old pensioner and have to be very careful to make my pension last.

I noticed that one of the gentlemen was taking notes but I did not really bother to ask why.

A few days later I was talking to a friend who experienced the same thing and he did ask why they were taking notes. He jokingly asked the gentlemen if he was going to be reported and to his surprise the answer was: “Yes, we have been asked to take note of those who do not donate.”

I find this very disturbing and I would like someone to look into it and give me some answers because I very much doubt that this is legal.
