The Ħamrun police should be praised for following up on a report that an “Asian-looking man” was seen trapping cats in Guardamangia.

The man was reported for trapping cats and possibly selling them as rabbits. A so-called animal lover reported him because she thought he was doing something wrong even though this person knew him in passing and the Asian man had actually talked to her about their joint love of animals. She still insisted on reporting him when the whole colony of cats went missing.

Had she taken the time to ask the man what had happened, my husband (the Asian-looking man) would have told her that after feeding this colony for two years, one by one the cats were gone. He was told that someone had been harming them.

My husband and I rescued the cats that were left. Some had to be trapped as they were too scared of people. We provided them with medical attention, had them neutered and released them to a safe place. Also, the mother cat is still at our home, along with her three kittens which will be homed as soon as they are ready. The mother cat will be neutered and released in a safe area.

I have lived in Malta for nine years now; I have been involved in feeding, neutering and homing cats. I have seven of my own cats, a dog I rescued and another seven foster cats for adoption. I have a Facebook page all dedicated to helping animals. Every bit of time, energy and most of our money goes towards animals and helping them.

I would like to say thank you to the police for showing us at least that if there is a report, however wrong it turns out to be, something would be done. I hope other police take such reports seriously as well.
