An Ivorian man granted bail on Monday when charged with heroin possession was arraigned again yesterday after he was allegedly caught with a sachet of cannabis grass when paying the court deposit.

Mumen Traore Trabule, 35, pleaded not guilty and Magistrate Charmaine Galea granted him bail again.

Mr Trabule was accused Monday of possessing a capsule of heroin in circumstances denoting it was not for his personal use.

The capsule, allegedly found during a spot check outside the Marsa open centre on Saturday, contained about 20 grams of heroin.

He was also charged with having a small amount of cannabis, relapsing and breaching a probation order over a case last November.

He was granted bail against a deposit of €450 and a €7,000 personal guarantee. The following day, he went to pay his bail deposit at the Corradino Correctional Facility, where he was searched upon entry, as is the norm. The prosecution alleges that he had a small sachet of cannabis grass in his pocket.

Police Inspectors Gabriel Micallef and Spiridione Zammit charged Mr Trabule with simple possession, attempting to smuggle cannabis into the prison, relapsing and failing to adhere to his bail conditions.

Despite these charges and the prosecution’s objections the magistrate granted Mr Trabule bail, ordering him to sign the bail book at the Qawra police station. Lawyer Joseph Mifsud appeared for the accused.
