Anyone who has been to one of Renzo Spiteri’s live performances will agree that the experience is much more than just musical; a welcome retreat from the hustle and bustle of our daily routines and a chance to immerse oneself into a world of rhythms and sounds that tickle the senses and alleviate the mind.

It is with this same mindset that Spiteri’s latest musical project, aptly titled Meditations, has been conceived. As might be expected of this kind of performance, an intimate setting is vital, and the church of St Catherine of Italy in Valletta has precisely that kind of ambience.

The performance, which will take place on Saturday, will see Spiteri team up with talented vocalist Sandrina DeGabriele. The young singer’s expressive voice will lend itself to prose and poetry as the literary works merge and dissolve within the creative sounds Spiteri will evoke from his eclectic collection of percussive instruments.

Meditations aims to offer a 50-minute aural experience that exists on a totally detached parallel far from the fast-paced rhythm of today’s reality.

The performance starts at 7pm and there is a repeat performance at 8.30pm. Tickets cost €10 and are available from St James Cavalier (Tel. 2122 3200) or online at www.sjcav.org.
