The 3/11 Regiment RMA (Territorials) Association, in collaboration with the Birżebbuġa local council, is this morning holding a memorial service near the Wied il-Buni marble plaque that commemorates the six brave soldiers killed at a Bofors gun position sited on the rocky foreshore of the main Kalafrana Road, Birzebbuġa, in 1942.

Eighty-six pupils from St Benedict College, Birżebbuġa Primary School, will be participating in the service, thus learning more about their town’s history and also the role it played in World War II and why it was, therefore, such a prominent target.

The ceremony, which includes prayers, exhortation and wreath laying, starts at 10am.
