The rehabilitation of Il-Foss at Vittoriosa caught our attention and we decided to spend a day there. The day could not have started better as when we were entering the main gate we met Ġorġ tal-mużew.

I have known Ġorġ  for many years especially when my father was at Boffa Hospital; he used to come there to visit the patients and narrate to all one of his poems. I will never forget Ġorġ especially for the smile he always gave my father, and those present.

Way back on January 28, 1996, USS America, the largest aircraft carrier that ever entered the Grand Harbour, was leaving Malta after a short stay. Our family took the opportunity to visit our father and watch the ship’s intricate manoeuevres from the balcony of Boffa’s spinal section. Luckily, while I was videoing the scene, Ġorġ  came near us and started reciting a poem, spirtu pront, about the aircraft carrier, the sea and lots of fish. It was just incredible.

Ġorġ  remembers this occasion well and he handed me an updated version of this poem Il-Baħar, where one can find a sea of fish!  How much we have to learn from him. Though slower in pace than 20 years ago, he still makes it a point to visit his patients.
