After nearly a decade of working with children, teens and adults, Hoi Polloi Theatre Productions launches its Academy this September to further promote what it believes in: that there is talent waiting to be discovered, sometimes in unlikely places, which craves to be given a chance to grow.

Working with so many talented people in the high-energy production Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in 2011 was a fantastic experience. Now Hoi Polloi feels it is time to create a platform where young aspiring performers can learn to express themselves creatively and be coached in the right way.

The Hoi Polloi Academy, which will be operating from The Box, Mosta, opens its doors to students on September 23, launching classes in drama, dance, singing and musical theatre.

Musical Theatre Mondays targets kids aged four to 10 and will be making use of well-known children’s musicals to instill a passion for this genre and teach the technique required for singing, acting and dance.

Theatrical Tuesdays targets older students aged 11 and over and focuses on voice work, character work, movement and improvisation, staging and theatre studies, including classical, romantic and contemporary work and musical theatre. The singing classes cover rhythm, harmony, music theory and help students discover different genres of music.
