The first edition of the One Drop Reggae Festival is taking place this weekend in Marsascala.

The event will open with MC Brother Culture from the UK, who has been churning hits since the 1980s and has collaborated with top reggae and dub producers. Pon Di Corner will warm up the crowds for him.

Local band The Rifffs will present a night of ska and reggae on Saturday night, while London reggae stars Mikey Dread and Ras Kayleb will treat the audience to a three-hour sound system-style set on Sunday afternoon. The duo will start with chilled-out roots leading to uplifting dub and steppers.

Other performers during the three-day event include Freedom Fighters, Bass Culture, Salted Dread, Mundo Muzika, Mist, Nesta, Fre, Lubay from Portugal, Truthseeker from Italy and Peter Anthony from the UK.

The festival is a celebration of Caribbean culture and includes a specially-dedicated rum bar, a Jamaican street food stall, Ethiopian coffee, a market and an activity-packed Saturday afternoon with a jamming session, fun workshops and cocktail-making lessons.

The festival is taking place at Zion in Marsascala from today until Sunday. For more information, visit the event’s Facebook page and for tickets, log on to https://shop.trackagescheme.com .
