A reformed drug addict has been sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison and fined €5,000 after he was found guilty of trafficking in ecstasy in 2008.

James Tabone, 29, from Ħamrun, was found with 252 ecstasy pills and cannabis resin in his bedroom by police officers who raided his home.

Testifying in the case, Mike Orland, from the Sedqa agency, said that Mr Tabone had successfully completed a drug rehabilitation programme and was in fact a changed person, besides becoming a father.

Magistrate Miriam Hayman said that although he had been given a suspended jail term she was not going to bring this into force once he had reformed himself, but sentenced him to prison for trafficking.
