Gozo Channel’s largest ferry, MV Malita, returns to service tomorrow after extensive refurbishment and maintenance works worth €750,000.

Spread over a five-week period, the job focused on the cafeteria, the lounge, the lobby and restrooms. Marine maintenance works included a major overhaul of the main propulsion system, including the electric drive motors and thrusters. The 10-year-old vessel was refitted at Palumbo Shipyards. Gozo Channel Company Limited’s acting chairman, Vincent Mifsud, explained that another vessel, Ta’ Pinu, will go in for routine maintenance works and the installation of a hoistable deck after carnival.

The Malita is 86 metres long and 18 metres wide. With a gross tonnage of almost 5,000 tonnes, the ferry can carry 900 passengers and 150 vehicles when the hoistable car deck is used.
