I fear Malta is becoming isolated this summer.

I refer to the ferry crossings which used to operate untillast summer.

Grandi Navi Veloci used to take passengers up to Livorno or Palermo. Grimaldi Ferries used to cross over to Catania, Civitavecchia and occasionally Genoa. This year we have only the catamaran option, which only goes from Malta to Pozzallo, not even toCatania any more.

For us passengers who like to travel overland with their car, we now have no option but to goby catamaran.

Furthermore, the catamaran costs about €640 for three people and a car to cross over to Pozzallo in August. Two years ago we paid a little over €500 to go to Livorno, which is in northern Italy, andwe paid about the same pricelast year to go to Civitavecchiawith Grimaldi.

This also entails further fuel expenses. To go from Pozzallo to northern Italy by car is no joke as fuel in Italy is expensive – more than €2 a litre. Driving the length of Italy and back will cost hundreds of euros in fuel and tolls, apart from having to book a hotel for a night.

Weren’t we promised a better service when Sea Malta was no longer in operation? And what happened to Motorways of the Seas?
