For those about to rock, news of another White Rock event can only mean one thing – it’s time to party again.
Like previous editions, DJs Matt and Geez have been cooking up an extra special set list to keep the dancefloor busy and well rocking but this second edition of White Rock for 2012 will have an added dose of fired-up rock thanks to a live performance from Mikaela and her band.
Despite her young age, Malta’s own ‘flame-haired female rocker’ has now etched a place for herself as one of the leading artists on the local scene; her music brandishing elements that appeal to both the rock crowd and the mainstream audience. Proof of this lies in the success of all her singles to date, all of them enjoying significant radio airplay and her performances at Xirka Rock and Rockestra.
With her musical influences spanning the entire rock spectrum – from the vintage roots of The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath all the way to the present day rock and metal armada – it’s easy to understand what drives the young singer and songwriter, a quality that has been recognised by various people in the industry, both locally and beyond our shores.
Mikaela has already been abroad several times to sing, record or study music, among which is her recent fruitful sojourn at the prestigious Berklee College of Music. Locally, she’s already landed awards for Best New Artist (2010), Best Female Artist (2011), Vodafone Upcoming Artist and Malta’s Export Artist at last year’s Go Malta Music Awards.
Further to her White Rock performance, Mikaela and her band will be getting ready to perform abroad later this year. Apart from writing new songs and working on a brand new project, she is currently also setting up a number of unplugged sessions, singing and playing piano along with accompanying guitarists.
