A large chandelier three metres high by two metres wide, made from recycled material, was recently inaugurated in Bishop Mauro Caruana Street, Floriana. Fr Richard Borg, archipriest of Floriana, was present for the occasion.

The chandelier was designed and manufactured by Publio Agius and assisted by Doreen Gatt.

A total of 234 General Soft Drinks Co. Ltd plastic bottles were used on the project, which was partly sponsored by the firm.

The chandelier was made from wooden pellets, donated by Joseph Hili & Sons Ltd, and from other recycled material.

A number of volunteers contributed to collect the required number of bottles, including the owners of cafeteria 22nd January and the Giusti, Barbaro Sant, Hili, Vella, Dimech and Piscopo families.

The initiative was part of the Christmas activities by Assocjazzjoni Publju, held in Floriana to raise environment awareness.
