When the Maltese swimmers were back in action during Sunday’s ASA Time Trials, this time in the 50-metre pool at Tal-Qroqq after the creditable performances of the five-strong team at the recent World Short Course Championship in Doha, more limits were in store with a national and two junior records.

Julian Harding (Neptunes WPSC) improved his own 50m national breaststroke record of 29.50 set last October when he registered 29.33 seconds.

Mya Azzopardi bettered Amy Micallef’s previous Group B limits in the 50 and 200 metres breaststroke of 36.99 seconds and 2:52.76 set in 2010. Azzopardi covered the one-lap event in 36.82 seconds and the longer race in 2:52.00.

Meanwhile, another junior record was set over the weekend by SW Elite swimmer Francesca Falzon Young. She was taking part in the Hamilton Aquatics Meet in Dubai.

Falzon Young swam the 50m free in 28.71, a time which was 0.24 seconds faster than her previous ‘B’ record set in Berlin last year.

Incidentally, this week a group of swimmers are expected to proceed to Germany for the Berlin Annual International Meet, an event which promises to be lucrative for the Maltese swimmers in the way of records and personal best times.
