The article on the front page of May 7 quotes a Vote Watch report and claims that in the past five years all of Malta’s MEPs have been ranked as the delegation with the lowest voting record, with a 75 per cent collective voting rate in the European Parliament.

The article puts everyone in the same basket and does not distinguish between different MEPs or between Labour and Nationalist delegations. The article does not take into consideration the statistical effect of those MEPs who have been in office for less than the full five-year legislature.

I am very proud of my record representing the interests of Maltese and Gozitan people in the European Parliament, since I was elected a year ago.

With elections on May 24, it is important to set the record straight.

In the year that I have been a member of the European Parliament my personal voting record stands at over 96 per cent – which, according to the same Vote Watch website quoted in the article, puts me among the top 35 MEPs from every EU member State in the last five years.
