This is the state in which Triq il-Qaliet, in Marsa-scala, lies. A war zone! The worst part is the stretch that takes one to St Thomas Bay. The potholes are as large as a normal vehicle, making it difficult for drivers to avoid them. It has become dangerous to both drivers and pedestrians.

Residents can only complain to whoever represents them, and that is the Marsascala local council. It is a game of ping pong, for the mayor blames the transport authority and vice versa.

To avoid the deathtraps in the middle of this treacherous road, drivers are using a kilometres-long carriageway, newly constructed by the council, costing thousands of euros from public funds, smack underneath the pavement on the side where the luxurious bungalows are, serving as parking bays. This makes it dangerous for pedestrians. God forbid if an accident were to occur. And who is going to be held responsible?

The big question that needs to be answered is, why did the council surface this particular side of the road and not where the potholes are? The mind boggles.
