I agree with lateral thinking pioneer Edward de Bono’s idea to set up a ‘Thinking Palace’ (The Sunday Times, September 18).

However, I seriously doubt if it can happen in Malta as he wishes, for two reasons.

Firstly, whenever you try to come up with a new idea to make a system more effective and/or efficient, first you are probably considered crazy and then the idea is partially adjusted and launched (usually) by the same person who called you crazy in the first place. I say this from personal experience.

Secondly, whenever you come up with an idea that may change someone’s comfortable situation (usually the same person you are addressing) they make the idea seem impossible to implement so they can continue living in their little world of comfort.

Nevertheless I wish Prof. de Bono all the best of luck.
