The decisive matches from the first ranking tournament of the year, organised by the Malta Eight Ball Federation, was played late last month.

In the Open category final, Philip Ciantar beat Clayton Castaldi 10-8 and Lyden Debono won the Under-23 competition after having the better of Kevin Camilleri 10-2.

The Under-18 title was sealed by Leon Azzopardi after an 8-2 win over Matthew Zammit and Donna Bugeja won the women’s tournament.

In the decisive match, Bugeja had the better of Lorna Micallef 5-1.

The second ranking event of the federation is already underway with the participation of 140 cueists.

These ranking tournaments will determine those players who will represent the country at the 2014 Eight Ball European Open.

The tournament will be played in Bridlington, UK, in April.
