Marina di Ragusa’s tourist port staged a spectacular fireworks competition on Saturday as part of the wider ‘Arrivederci Estate’ activities which attracted thousands of people to the Sicilian waterfront.

Organised by the local and regional authorities, and supported by various sponsors, the programme of activities included a stage for local artists. The marina was abuzz with activity, offering all its services from bars to the commercial centre. Cultural alderman Francesco Barone made use of a Segway transporter to make his way through the crowd. Segways have been the novelty of the summer at the port where they have been made available for hire.

The evening progressed after midnight when the eagerly anticipated fireworks competition kicked off on a superyacht pontoon. The judges and local authorities watched from the terrace which hosts the port’s solarium. They eventually named the fireworks company Pirotecnica Iblea di Lorenzo Massari of Ragusa winner.

The marina’s public relations office pointed out that despite the official farewell, the summer season at Marina di Ragusa’s 723-berth marina continues and numerous boats are expected to visit from overseas.
