The 11th round of the ASMK autocross championship, sponsored by Pasta Poiatti, was held at the circuit in Ta’ Qali on Sunday.

Championship leader Melo Zammit failed to qualify for the Class A final but he remains firmly on top of the standings with 162 points. With only a handful of races left before the end of the season, time is running out for the other contenders to catch up with Zammit.

At present, Christian Mark Galea, on his Fiat Ritmo, is occupying second position in the standings on 133 points, with Gordon Johnson (Peugeot 205) third and Vince Farrugia (Volkswagen Polo) fourth, both with 130 points.

Josef Grech completes the top-five drivers list with 126 points on board his Ford Fiesta no. 62.

The difference is minimal between second and fifth place, making the competition even more interesting as they chase the remaining two slots on the winners’ rostrum.

There could be some changes in the classification on Sunday when another round of races are held.

Vauxhall Nova driver Andrew Pisani had to deal with some mechanical problems last Sunday but he is still the top driver at the moment in Class B.

Philip Joe Vella, on another Vauxhall Nova, is second overall in this class while Vince Farrugia follows in his Volkswagen Polo.

The Gozo Autocross championship still has Domenic Zammit (Alfa Sud) on top of the standings. He is ahead of Joseph Vella and Joseph Agius, both Fiesta, with Marvin Grima (Opel Corsa) in fourth place.
