I would like to congratulate the Count Roger Philarmonic Band for the musical programme performed on May 14 on Great Siege Square, Valletta, while the capital city was en fête, celebrating one of its titular feasts, St Augustine of Hippo.

The Rabat band was under the baton of its musical director James Chappell and played Ciappara’s preludio Anniversary, Rosza’s March of the Charioteers from Ben Hur, Lehar’s selection from La Vedova Allegra, Shostakovich’s Waltz No 2, Lloyd Webber’s highlights from Phantom of the Opera, a selection from Bizet’s Carmen and Chappell’s Inno di Gloria. The concert came to an end with Giuseppe Vitaliti’s Inno Conte Ruggiero.

One should applaud the number of young talented musicians performing with the Rabat band, which augurs well for its future.
