When will Simon Busuttil mature politically?

Doesn’t he know that as Opposition leader he is expected to think before he utters incredible statements such as those of the last few months?

The statements that come immediately to mind are: “I do not wish to see the finger of some Chinese on Enemalta’s switch”; “September belongs to the PN”; “It’s because when we were in government we weren’t greedy” (regarding the PN’s enormous financial problem); “Malta is the worst country in Europe”; “The gimmick of the millennium” (in regard to the gas power station project that will result in lower energy tariffs as from March); “I felt as if I was being tried in Pyongyang [North Korea]” (referring to the breach of privilege hearings being held before a House committee).

On this case he even said he could end up in prison!

This is tantamount to insulting the intelligence of the supporters of his own party.

A local English language newspaper, in its editorial of February 21, advised the Nationalist Opposition not to exaggerate when criticising the government because such exaggerations tend to “explode” in their faces.

It seems Busuttil isn’t ready to take the advice even of friends in the media. He knows that his party had tried that tactic during the general election campaign, and it didn’t work.

To repeat the same mistake proves his political immaturity.
