In last week’s Budget, most people expected to see a reduction in both the prices of fuel and energy, which are among the highest in the EU.

With the commissioning of the electricity interconnector (a PN government project), the commissioning of the BWSC electric generating plant (a PN government project) and the historically low price of fuel (market forces) the government could have easily reduced energy prices. However, this was not the case.

Is Prime Minister Joseph Muscat waiting for his new power station to be commissioned to announce a reduction in energy prices? He would then link the reduction to the new power station.

Just think about it, if the government had reduced the energy price now, which is what it should have done, then people would have questioned the need for a new power station.
