I refer to the letter ‘A shoddier transport service’ (September 26).
Malta Public Transport is in the process of implementing a programme of initiatives to improve the quality of its service. One of these is the real-time tracking of vehicles which will allow for the provision of information to passengers via the electronic monitors aboard all the fleet and on some of the bus stops.
During summer, the company introduced 142 new buses which were specifically built for Malta in Turkey.
The company is on track with regard to the installation of the electronic tracking system on the new buses too.
Once the implementation of this system is complete, our customers will then be able to get instantaneous information on the public transport service. This will mean that the signs on the bus stops and those installed in the terminuses will display estimated bus arrival times.
The company’s plan is to launch other important services such as a smartphone app with which customers can keep up to date with bus information.
