A magnitude 6.5 earthquake that struck Greece on November 17 was felt in Malta. Reports submitted to the Seismic Monitoring and Research Group website were mostly from people living in the central and northern parts of Malta. This is a case where an earthquake occurring more than 600km away was felt in Malta. In 1856, a magnitude eight earthquake that hit this same region had damaged buildings in the Maltese islands. Last month a very small quake occurred close to Malta and another two struck less than 100km away. Globally, although two 7.6 magnitude earthquakes hit Peru, no casualties were reported as they occurred at a deep level. If readers experience any earthquake-related shaking, they are invited to fill in the online questionnaire at http://seismic.research.um.edu.mt.
