Qormi and Naxxar Lions, the two teams relegated from the Premier League last season, will start their bids to regain their place in the top flight with tricky matches as the BOV Division One draws were held yesterday.

Qormi will be playing against Senglea Athletic, who missed out on promotion after losing a play-off against St Andrew’s, while the Lions start with a difficult encounter against Pieta Hotspurs, the perennial challengers in Division One.

The championship, kicking off on September 9, will be played over two rounds with the top three gaining access to the Premier League and the fourth-placed side to figure in an end-of-season play-off against the team placing 11th in the Premier League.

Only two teams will be relegated from Division One in 2016-17.

In other Match-day One pairings, two promoted teams, Sirens and Għargħur, start with a clash against each other while Marsa, the other side on the up from Division Two last season, take on Mqabba.

Match-day one
Żebbuġ vs Vittoriosa; Marsa vs Mqabba; Fgura vs Rabat; Lija vs Melita; Sirens vs Għargħur; Pieta vs Naxxar; Senglea vs Qormi.
