Qormi survived the late dismissal of Quincy Bregman to edge past fifth-placed Vittoriosa Stars and keep alive their hopes of winning promotion to the Premier League next season.
The win lifted the Yellow-Blacks to just one point behind fourth-placed Mqabba with only four matches to go.
Qormi went close early on and Darko Medic saw his drive coming off the woodwork.
But it was Vittoriosa who took the lead on 21 minutes.
Joseph Ogunnuppe nodded the ball into the path of the unmarked Peter Mrvic to slot the ball past Vittoriosa goalkeeper Jamie Azzopardi.
A minute later Vittoriosa responded when a Christian Mallia drive was saved by Azzopardi.
The Stars managed to forge ahead on 21 minutes when from a Mallia free-kick
Seven minutes later, Michael Camilleri saw his inswinger come off the bar.
But Qormi’s efforts were rewarded a minute later.
Yannick Yankam did well to anticipate his marker and head the ball into the net from Mark Barbara’s cross.
The match remained evenly balanced after the break.
But 12 minutes from time Qormi were reduced to ten men when Bregman was dismissed for a foul on Leighton Grech on the edge of the area.
But despite being a man down Qormi won it when Camilleri curled the ball home.
The Stars laid siege to the Qormi goal and almost levelled at the death but Grech’s shot hit the post.
