Qormi 1
Young Stars 0

In the first real attack of the game, after four minutes, Young Stars were awarded a penalty corner but it was to no avail.

This stung Qormi into action and, after a period of pressure on the Young Stars’ rearguard, in the 13th minute they won two penalty corners in succession.

However, they were first denied by James Mizzi, the Stars custodian, and then, a shot was deflected over the bar.

Following a period of midfield play, Young Stars created two snap chances in the 27th minute but could not break the deadlock.

On 32 minutes, a melee in the Qormi goalmouth resulted in the ball being scrambled off the line with the goalkeeper beaten. Qormi counter-attacked immediately, forcing two penalty corners in the last two minutes before half-time.

This game seemed to hinge on the penalty kings, Qormi’s Juan Sarcia and Mark Camilleri, of Young Stars. However, up till the end of the first half, both had drawn blanks.

Things changed early in the second half though as on 39 minutes Sarcia converted a penalty corner.

Despite winning three penalty corners by the 64th minute, all not converted, Young Stars forced Qormi back into their own D and fought hard up to the last minute when they were awarded their fourth penalty corner in the second half.

Their hopes were dashed by a fine intervention from Ramon Chircop as the whistle blew, leaving Qormi hanging on to their slender lead as they retained the Super Cup.

Umpires: Manuel Imbroll, Luke Busuttil Leaver.
