Qormi FC are asking the Malta Football Association to launch an inquest into the transfer proceedings of striker Shola Haruna to Premier League rivals Birkirkara.

The two clubs opened their new league campaign with a direct clash on Friday evening which Birkirkara won 2-0.

But, 24 hours later, the Stripes rubbed more salt into Qormi’s wound when their official website announced that Shola, who had spent most of the pre-season with the Yellow-Blacks, had decided to play for Birkirkara.

It seems, that Qormi were finding it difficult to complete the Nigerian’s transfer in time due to visa problems and delays in documents from his country’s federation.

However, despite the com-plications, Qormi still fielded Shola in pre-season friendlies and also for the Hibs Tournament last month at Corradino where he finished top-scorer.

In a statement, late Saturday, Qormi said Shola, who was also linked with Floriana FC last week, left the residence they had provided the player with during his stay here without notice and all attempts to meet his agent in Malta proved futile.

In the meantime, Birkirkara made the transfer move formal and the club’s website said Shola had agreed to a two-year contract and he will most likely make his debut next Saturday against new-comers Mosta.

For this reason, the statement added, Qormi are urging the MFA to delve more into the matter.

“The MFA has to see that no irregularities took place and that the registration was done according to the rules,” Qormi said.
