A group of 200 singers, young and old, will be joining together for the Voices Concert to raise money for charity.

Ten spectacular nights of music called ‘Heart and Soul’ will be presented thanks to the work of more than 300 volunteers.

The 13th edition of this initiative will take place from October 1-5 and 8-12 at the Mediterranean Conference Centre (MCC), Valletta.

Twenty-two popular musical numbers will be interpreted, including songs by Queen, Beyonce, Michael Jackson, Elton John and Lorde.

The choir, directed by Martina Caruana, will be accompanied by a nine-piece live band led by drummer Sandro Grech. Kevin Abela made the musical arrangements.

A production team of more than 40 professionals will be working to ensure a high-standard performance, both musically and visually.

Hundreds of volunteers dedicate endless hours of their free time to help others

Voices Foundation chairman Antonello Gauci said Voices “epitomises the generosity of hundreds of volunteers who dedicate endless hours of their free time to help others”.

Gemma Mifsud Bonnici, chairwoman of the Vodafone Malta Foundation, the long-standing title sponsor of Voices concerts, described the event as a “showcase of talent for a good cause” adding the foundation was proud to support “this noble initiative once again”.

In its 24 years of existence, Voices worked towards collecting money for charities. The chosen charity is always shared with the audience and, to date, Voices has raised more than €1.7 million. This year, Voices will not be raising money for just one lead project but three. The first consists of offering short-term accommodation for vulnerable women.

Called ‘A space for bruised souls’ and ‘Broken hearts’, the initiative will be run by the Sisters of Charity of St Jeanne Antide.

Another project, handled by the Jesuit Refugee Service Malta Foundation, will offer care and protection through services and advocacy for refugees.

Asylum seekers will be empowered and trained to raise awareness about their needs and to lobby more effectively for improved reception conditions and better care and support.

The third was submitted by the Permaculture Research Foundation and aims to incorporate an example of how renewable energy can be integrated into farming systems to produce ecologically grown products.
