Last Friday, I was driving home and as I approached Għar-id-Dud Street to go to Howard Street in Sliema I found the road closed to traffic. I had no choice but to go round Tower Road to go up from the other end of the street. But the road was again closed because the space for cars to pass by a huge crane obstructing the road was also blocked, ironically by a van belonging to the same construction company!
I decided to go back to inform the warden about my predicament. “Don’t worry, drive the wrong way,” he said, as if he was saying: “It’s your life you are risking, who cares.”
Would you believe it coming from an officer who is paid to see that our roads are safe?
