Powerful music, a gripping story and a tragic end: Puccini’s ever-popular Tosca is being staged at the Aurora Theatre, Victoria, tomorrow.

Opera goers will be treated with a fabulous cast. Among the star singers are soprano Michèle Crider (Floria Tosca), tenor Neil Shicoff (Mario Cavardossi) and baritone Juan Pons (Baron Scarpia), household names at New York’s Metropolitan Opera.

First performed in 1900, Tosca is a relatively short but highly dramatic opera. It contains glorious music for the three principal singers: the tragic diva, Floria Tosca; her doomed lover, Mario Cavaradossi; and opera’s most wicked villain, the evil Baron Scarpia.

Tosca is a thriller, the story of a soprano trapped between the man she loves and the police chief she loathes. Unfortunately, the police chief has captured and tortured her man and sentenced him to be executed by firing squad. This sets up one of the most exciting, nerve-wracking ending in opera history.

The cast will be accompanied by Gozitan bass Noel Galea (Cesare Angelotti), bass-baritone Alessandro Busi (a sacristan), tenor Costantino D ’Aniello (Spoletta), bass Cosimo Arena (Sciarrone), baritone Louis Andrew Cassar (a tailor) and treble Annabelle Zammit (a shepherd).

• A free shuttle service will be available from Mġarr to Victoria and back. Patrons are asked to book their seats by e-mailing info@leone.org.mt or by phone on 2155 9452 (mornings only).
