As if the benighted residents of Għajnsielem didn’t have enough to put up with – their village being virtually cordoned off by visitors’ traffic every weekend, high day and holiday (there’s often talk of a ring road, and even discussion of proposed routes, but that’s usually in the run-up to an election). Now it has suffered the indignity of losing its bus services.
As usual, “new and improved” translates as “less and worse”. And, thanks to the wonders of modern transport planning, buses now run around the borders of one of Gozo’s biggest villages – but not to it or through it.
We’ve read lots, recently, about the wonderful services and new routes being created on the south island. But who cares about facilities on Gozo? After all, when the Maltese come over, they’ll all be bringing their cars…
