The other morning (November 14), my husband and I went to Marsaxlokk for a walk round, a bit of shopping and some lunch.

There were lots of tourists arriving in coaches or otherwise. The place was absolutely vibrant and with the weather being so lovely and warm I felt so pleased to be there, until I went to the public convenience.

What a disgrace. As I went in I was faced with a really filthy wall, very basic toilets, no toilet paper and a trickle of water to wash my hands but no towels or paper or dryer. Shame! And then they have the cheek to put a notice saying the place was covered by CCTV surveillance. Would you believe it?

My husband had no favourable comments to make when he went to the gents either.

These toilets see so many tourists, visitors and Maltese people there out for the day. They should be cleaned up, made decent and be manned like they do in Rabat and the Blue Grotto. Nobody would mind if they had to pay for the service.

A nature call should not end up with one being angry and disgusted and ashamed. I felt like standing outside apologising to all the people who came out but who do I apologise for? The local council, the government, who?

Let’s hope this letter does not fall on deaf ears.
