St Hubert Hunters Association has lodged objections in court over holding a referendum to repeal laws that permit spring hunting.

The association said the derogation from the Birds Directive that enabled Malta to have a spring hunting season was granted in line with European directives following a ruling by the European Court of Justice.

This determined there were “specific circumstances” for the hunting of turtle dove and quail in Malta.
